THE WIDOW'S DIARY - PART 9
We entered into the compound of this magnificent building, beautiful flowers were neatly planted around, there was a swimming pool in the extreme left corner of the compound, five cars were parked in the garage, judging from the appearance, the cars were new.
The security guard led us to the entrance of the mansion
" You should have the keys Madam, you may use it please"
I brought out the key from the envelope and inserted it into the door lock, turned it to the right and the door opened.
My children and I stepped into the mansion, we stopped dead in our tracks, with our jaws dropping, eyes rotating 360 degrees, we exclaimed
"Wowwwwwww!!!"
The hallway had large picture frames of a baby girl, another frame had the picture of a young lady and a man holding hands.
"Mum look at you! This is the same picture we have at home." My last child said, pointing at the picture of the baby that was hung on the wall.
It took me a minute to realize that I was the baby in the picture and the young lady in the next picture frame was my mother.
She looked so young and beautiful in the picture, her eyes shone with so much beauty, expressing an indescribable love for the man standing next to her.
Who could this man be? I asked myself
There was another picture of my mother in a white wedding gown with the same man in the previous picture frame holding her slender waist and smiling so wide as though he had just won a lottery ticket.
This must be my father.
I never knew him, I learnt he passed away when I was four, my mother and I then moved to another city to start a new life together. She did not remarry after his death, rather she spent time nurturing and showering me with so much love.
At times, I would hear her sobbing at night on her pillow, I knew she had a deep affection for my father and missed him badly.
The next thing I knew, I was living with my mother's best friend, (my mom kicked the bucket too, few years after my dad died)
She was a really good woman as she took me in as her daughter, she was the one who sponsored my college education, and when I got married I relocated with my husband to another city.
Was this house really mine? Why are my pictures hung on the wall?
Just then we heard a car drive into the compound, the door opened and the same elderly man that offered to give us a lift walked into the mansion, with his left hand clutching a brown leather briefcase.
Glad to meet you again ma'am. He extended his hand for a handshake.
I shook his hands and forced a smile
Please let's have a seat. He motioned to the sitting room where luxury leather sofas were arranged in a U-shape. A big flat TV screen was adjacent to the sofas.
He walked over to the Air Conditioners and switched it on with the remote and took a chair opposite me.
Up in the ceiling were four star chandeliers which shone beautifully like stars in the night in the sitting room.
This mansion is soo beautiful! Is this really our Mum's house? My eldest children asked
That Widow
Awesome!!! Thanks so much for sharing
