THE WIDOW'S DIARY (Part 13)
BIBLE STUDY WITH THE WIDOW
Hello Fam!
Welcome to another segment of Bible Study with The Widow .
I would love to take you on another journey. This time, I would be sharing great nuggets from my life story in the bible. (2Kings 4:1-7)
Please walk with me,
One day the wife of a man from the guild of prophets called out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead. You well know what a good man he was, devoted to God . And now the man to whom he was in debt is on his way to collect by taking my two children as slaves.” 2 Kings 4:1 MSG https://bible.com/bible/97/2ki.4.1.MSG
Firstly, My late husband was godly, devoted to God, he was anointed, appointed and every "ted" but he was in debts even to his death. Did that mean that God didn't love him or didn't care about him?
No, Jesus said that, in this world we would have tribulations but we should be of good cheer, why? Because He has overcome the world,
This goes without saying, "Knowing and serving God does not stop problems from coming from your way"
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Furthermore, When I got word that my late husband's mentor and pastor was in town, Prophet Elisha, I went to him for counsel because my late husband debtors had threatened that the next time they come they would take away my sons, I was at my wits end.
When situations arise that are bigger than you, your first point of contact should be to go to God.
However, what Prophet Elisha told me was very surprising such that I went back home to ponder on it.
Here's what he told me;
“Here’s what you do,” said Elisha. “Go up and down the street and borrow jugs and bowls from all your neighbors. And not just a few—all you can get. Then come home and lock the door behind you, you and your sons. Pour oil into each container; when each is full, set it aside.” 2 Kings 4:3-4 MSG https://bible.com/bible/97/2ki.4.3-4.MSG
Honestly, when the prophet Elisha told me to go and borrow jugs and bowls from ALL my neighbors, as many as I could get.
I doubted him because I could not comprehend why on earth God would tell him to tell me to BORROW- Did God not know that borrowing got us into debts? I questioned.
Then my children told me to just obey the prophet, that it would cost us nothing at least we can’t eat jugs and bowls so when the time comes to return them, we would be able to do so if a miracle had not occurred by then. I hearkened to their voice.
I learnt a few lessons that particular day:
- · God can use anybody to advice you, Please never look down on anyone, not even your little children, you have to be teachable and humble. Psalms 8:2 (KJV); Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
- · You need to have good relational skills, no man is an island, if I had a bad attitude towards my neighbors, I am very sure they would not have borrowed me their jugs and bowls.
- · God uses the foolish things to confound the wise, to succeed in life you must be willing to do what God says whether it makes sense or not.
- · I hated being a borrower but God used what I hate to give me joy. Sometimes, the thing that causes you shame, pain, and disgrace may be the very thing that God will use to surprise you in a good way!
That Widow
Beautiful lessons.
