THE WIDOW'S DIARY (PART 16)
Hello and welcome back to Bible study With the Widow series
4!
Today, let's unpack some nuggets from this Bible
verse,
She did what he said. She locked the
door behind her and her sons; as they brought the containers to her, she filled
them. When all the jugs and bowls were full, she said to one of her sons,
“Another jug, please.” He said, “That’s it. There are no more jugs.”
Then the oil stopped. 2 Kings 4:5-6 MSG

To begin with, I swell with so much pride and gratitude to
God for my children! They were of immense help and succor to me, especially during
my trying time, they were the ones that encouraged me to obey the instructions
of the prophet which at the time seemed ridiculous to me.
To be honest, it was not a one-day affair, they did not
just wake up one fine morning and decided to love and serve God, No, my husband
and I spent time to INTENTIONALLY and DELIBERATELY train them up in the way of
the Lord.
I emphasized the words, 'intentionally' and 'deliberately'
because it was a conscious effort to train them up according to the way of
God.
The Bible has examples of some children who were not
trained in the ways of the Lord, therefore, both the parents and children ended up
in destruction.
For example, Eli’s sons were disobedient to both God
and man, They defiled the temple, and in the end, God dealt hard with them
’Eli’s own sons were a bad lot. They didn’t know God and could not have cared less about…” 1 Samuel 2:12-17 https://my.bible.com/bible/97/1SA.2.12-17
'In
that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning
his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. For I have told him that I
will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his
sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. '
1 Samuel 3:12-13

Also, Samuel's children were nothing to write home about,
they committed so many atrocities.
'And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after
lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment. Then all the elders of Israel
gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, And his sons
walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and
perverted judgment. '
1 Samuel 8:3-4 https://my.bible.com/bible/1/1SA.8.3-4
In conclusion, as parents, we cannot afford to be careless in raising our children, we must be INTENTIONAL and DELIBERATE in raising up good and godly children.
'Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 https://my.bible.com/bible/1/PRO.22.6
